Movie Scene Map (formerly FilmMap)

OfficialRemoteby Movie Scene Map (Flightmussy)freeverified Oct 1, 2026

Where films and series were actually shot: 31,000+ locations in 177 countries, from Wikidata.

What it does

A read-only remote MCP over a Wikidata-derived atlas of filming locations — 31,115 places across 177 countries, tied to 19,707 films and series plus 2,153 video games and the indexed anime and manga. An agent can ask where a production was shot, what was shot at a given place, search by coordinates and radius, or rank the most-filmed locations in a country. For recce and reference it answers the question a location scout starts with: who has already shot here, and what did it look like on screen. No signup, no key, no install — point a client at the endpoint and query.

Field notes

Renamed: FilmMap became Movie Scene Map on 1 September 2026, and thefilmmap.com now 301s to moviescenemap.com. The repo README (re-checked 2026-10-01; pushed 2026-09-08, MIT, still 0 stars, one personal account) names https://moviescenemap.com/mcp as the endpoint and says the old https://thefilmmap.com/mcp keeps answering for clients configured before the rename — but the official MCP registry still lists com.thefilmmap/filming-locations v1.1.0 at the old address, so registry-driven clients will be pointed there until it is republished. Stateless streamable HTTP, POST-only; a GET returning 405 is correct. The docs publish a JSON client config rather than a per-client command; the claude mcp add line above is that endpoint in Claude Code form. The atlas roughly doubled with the rename (31,115 locations, 177 countries, per the data page) and counts move with every deploy — trust get_statistics over any figure quoted here. Read the medium distinction before quoting anything: films and series carry real filming locations (Wikidata P915), while games, anime and manga carry narrative settings (P840) and were filmed nowhere, and the server labels each record so an agent does not conflate them. Some links now come from a production's English Wikipedia Filming section rather than Wikidata; those arrive in separate fields under CC BY-SA 4.0 and must be cited as 'per Wikipedia'. Coverage is uneven — some productions are placed at country level only, and the unplaceable ones are listed at moviescenemap.com/gaps/. A place is not a scene: there is no shot-level granularity, so this narrows a recce list, it does not replace one. The factual dataset is CC0; Commons photographs and some city permit datasets keep their own attribution terms.
