DaVinci Resolve AI Bridge MCP

Communityby Community (flamexnreal)freeverified Sep 15, 2026

Local MCP bridge into DaVinci Resolve that runs on the Free edition, not just Studio.

What it does

A Python bridge that starts from Resolve's own Workspace → Scripts menu and hands an MCP client some forty-five tools: timeline inspection, media import and placement, clip transforms and Fusion zoom animation, grade reads and writes, silence detection with marker-then-apply cuts, review on duplicate timelines, and render queueing. It was built Free-first: it runs inside Resolve as a menu script rather than attaching through Studio-only external scripting, so no Studio key is needed. The larger davinci-resolve server now reaches the Free edition the same way, which makes this the lighter, narrower alternative — fewer tools, one Python runtime, and a review-on-a-duplicate-timeline habit baked into the edit tools.

Field notes

Verified 2026-09-15 against the repo and npm: MIT, v1.12.0 published 7 Sep 2026, ~23 stars, one maintainer on a personal account created June 2026, repo created July 2026 — young, and the submission came from that maintainer. The npx line is an installer, not the server: it creates ~/.resolve-ai-bridge with a private Python environment, adds the Resolve menu entries and merges MCP config into the clients it detects; the stdio server it registers is a local Python command, with `npx -y davinci-resolve-ai-bridge-mcp --serve` as the alternative. Weigh it against davinci-resolve (2.6k stars, 36 compound tools, also Free-capable since its own in-app bridge shipped) and against Resolve Studio 21.1, whose first-party AI-assistant integration is Studio-only. Read the fine print: the README's live-tested matrix is macOS / Resolve Free 21.0.3.7 / Python 3.14.6 only, Windows and Linux are marked as still needing verification, and Studio-only effects stay Studio-only. FFmpeg is an optional extra download for source-frame capture. Tool names above come from the README's tool table, not a live tools/list.
