What it does

Epidemic Sound's official MCP server (beta) puts the licensed catalogue behind twelve tools: keyword and similarity search across music, a matching search over sound effects, AI voiceover generation with a browsable artist list, and download tools that return full tracks, stems, or WAV effects. search_external_track will take a Spotify reference and find the nearest cleared equivalent, which is the temp-track problem most edits actually have. For an agent cutting to picture it is the alternative to generative score: real recordings with sync, mechanical and performance rights already settled.

Hosted Streamable HTTP, endpoint answering with a 401 challenge on 23 Aug 2026, and still labelled beta — Epidemic Sound says it expects to be 'squashing bugs and rolling out functionality'. The catch is access: this lives inside the Partner API, and the documented API-key route is gated behind a partnership agreement ('reach out to us to discuss a partnership'), so a solo filmmaker's practical path is the OAuth flow against an existing account in a client that supports Dynamic Client Registration. Keys, once issued, last a year. Rights follow the account, not the API: a free-tier user gets a personal license only, and monetising a cut needs an active paid subscription connected through ES Connect — check the plan before you deliver an ad. No published rate limits. Use it where cleared recordings beat generated score; for generative alternatives see the ElevenLabs, Mureka and Sonilo entries.
