JSON2Video MCP

Officialby JSON2Videofreemiumverified Oct 13, 2026

The vendor's own MCP: render JSON movies, validate them, and manage the media library.

What it does

JSON2Video's official MCP server, shipped as the `mcp` subcommand of its CLI. An agent describes a movie as JSON — scenes of video, images, text, HTML, voice-over and subtitles — validates it before spending credits, renders it server-side, then polls for the MP4. It also exposes the template catalogue and full media-library CRUD, which is what makes it usable for batch work: upload plates once, reference them across a hundred data-driven cuts without re-uploading.

Field notes

Do not run `npx @json2video/mcp` — JSON2Video's own marketing page tells you to, and that package does not exist on npm (still 404 on 13 Oct 2026). The working command is the CLI's subcommand, `npx -y @json2video/cli mcp`, which is what the actual MCP docs specify. The server is not open source: npm @json2video/cli is MIT-licensed but has no repository field and no public repo exists, so the thirteen tools listed in the docs are the only description of the surface you get. Two versions ever, 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 (Apr 14 2026), and still nothing newer six months on — quiet rather than proven, though the API behind it is mature and the vendor advertises 99.9% uptime. Node >=20, stdio only, no hosted endpoint. Needs outbound HTTPS to api.json2video.com and cdn.json2video.com, which matters in locked-down CI. Free tier is 600 credits (~10 minutes of render); paid starts around $50/month, so make the agent call validate_movie before render_video — a malformed movie that fails late still costs you. `json2video auth` writes credentials to ~/.config/json2video/config.json instead of the env var; pick one and stay with it.
