Nomi
Open-source desktop workbench your agent directs: storyboard, generate, cut on a timeline.
What it does
Nomi is a local-first Electron workbench that exposes its own production surface over MCP, so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Pi, or WorkBuddy can create a project, lay out shots on a canvas, draft and price a generation, clear a paid confirmation gate, and land the result on an editable timeline. The model layer is bring-your-own: hosted providers come pre-wired, and anything OpenAI-compatible or a local ComfyUI graph slots in beside them. That combination is rare — most studio-tier servers in this directory are hosted products that own the models, whereas here the agent directs software on your own machine against whatever engines you are already paying for. Durable production runs make it more than fire-and-forget: the agent can start a run, review and revise scripts and storyboards, and decide creative gates, while budget, export, and publishing stay with the human in the app.
Connect
Connection is set up through the vendor's flow — follow the official connect instructions.
Local install: Multi-step: install the Nomi desktop app (Nomi-mac-arm64.dmg, Nomi-mac-x64.dmg, or Nomi-windows-setup.exe from GitHub Releases), launch it once so it mints the local token, then use Model Integration > Connect AI Programming Assistant to register the bundled stdio server with your client. Do not hand-write the config: Nomi signs a per-machine, per-client proof into it. No published `claude mcp add` one-liner.

The tool surface was rebuilt in September, so older configs and saved prompts will not match it. The docs now count 24 tools, collapsed from 42 one-verb tools on 2 Sep 2026. Every read goes through `nomi_read`, canvas writes go through `nomi_canvas_edit` under a project lease, and a single generation is plan → preview → gate → execute. The `nomi_generate`, `nomi_add_nodes` and `nomi_get_run` names this entry used to list are gone. `nomi_canvas_plan` was retired on 5 Sep and `nomi_layout_read`/`nomi_layout_write` on 14 Sep. You can no longer copy the config between machines or clients: Nomi writes signed `NOMI_MCP_CLIENT` / `NOMI_MCP_CLIENT_PROOF` values bound to one machine and one client. A bare `NOMI_MCP_STDIO=1` entry can still list tools, but Nomi treats it as `external` and it cannot start real production runs. The old scripts/nomi-mcp.mjs path now exits with a migration message. By design the agent cannot approve budgets, per-shot paid submits, rough-cut acceptance, export or publishing. Those decisions come back to the app. Very active: ~520 stars, v0.22.1 released 26 Sep 2026, pushed 27 Sep 2026. It is still a single personal GitHub account, not an org. Licence: AGPL-3.0 for current releases, with a separate commercial licence on request, so shipping a derivative product means negotiating a licence first. Desktop-only: macOS arm64/x64 plus Windows x64, no Linux build. Releases now include electron-updater manifests. This pass did not recheck whether the builds are code-signed; earlier ones were not. The MCP guide is Chinese-only. 'Local-first' covers projects, assets and keys, but the guide itself notes that prompts and inputs still go to whichever provider you configured, and every generation bills that provider's key.
